BYZANTINE BRONZE: $ 78.00
I believe this lamp is an antique, but it is not ancient. It was purchased from a bronze dealer who in turn acquired it from a major studio's prop warehouse in Culver City, California. I cannot guarantee it, but I believe it came from the MGM studios and was probably made in the 1920's-1950's. I do not know if it was used in any movies, but I don't doubt it was. The style is Byzantine of about the 7th century A.D. It is heavy cast bronze, this is no cheap import. A very impressive lamp. The filler cover hole is a face and styled very well- I have seen many originals that are just like this. Unlike the clay lamps which can only use vegetable oil, this lamp can use modern lamp oil. I have tried it out and it works well with that fuel. A large strand of wick is included. You will love this lamp.
About 9 inches in length by 6 inches in height.
